In the sentence”While these programs persisted and even thrived, in the years immediately following this flurry of legislative activity, the national conversation surrounding Johnson’s domestic agenda largely focused on the $3 billion spent on War on Poverty programming within the Great Society’s Economic Opportunity Act (EOA) of 1964″ I think that “$3billion spent on War and poverty….” sounds better, there’s to many ons
Who is Medgar Evers? Why was he assassinated and what did it have to do with Wallace?
I fully agree with the comments criticizing the opening paragraph of this chapter. Not only is the paragraph contributing to a particular liberal narrative, the bias is reflected in the language. Instead of saying President Trump, what is written is, ” the sitting president of the United States then urged them to march on the Capitol.” Nowhere else does YAWP do this. Presidents are always properly identified except in this case. The writing treats the mere mention of Trump like some disgusting secret that can’t be spoke about. As an American it is offensive that A SUPPOSEDLY UNBIASED HISTORICAL ANALYSIS would be so shallow. Secondarily, Why would you open the Recent past with an event in 2020 then jump back to ten years earlier. Are you trying to get your two cents in about what YOU thought before you actually get to the history? Not only does it reflect poorly on American Yawp, it’s a poor stylistic and analytical choice. Grow up and be a better historian. The subpar political games you’re playing only reflects poorly on your part.
Finally, you mention that al-Qaeda was responsible for the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing. That is incorrect. al-Qaeda never officially sponsored that attack. The al-Qaeda connection comes from the fact that Yousef’s uncle was Khalid Sheik Mohammad. Implying that it was just al-Qaeda does not accurately capture the nuance of the dynamic.
Sincerely,
Lilee

Your head is deep up an orifice there.
It is very inspiring every time History takes us back to how the frontier settlers and urban dwellers were able to utilize the very little resources they had to achieve goals like industrialization, democracy, and evangelism. Though they had to deal with problems like inequality, abolition of slavery, and economical factors, I think the fact that they found ways to resolve these issues shows the amount of determination they had and how hard they were willing to work to create equality for all. Though their efforts failed in certain areas, I do not think they ever stopped trying.
The Citation has a misspelling. The word congress is spelled “Congres” missing the second S.
The Hells Angels are a motorcycle club (MC). They are sometimes referred to as an “outlaw” motorcycle club, or a 1% motorcycle club.

Some of the paragraphs the text size is smaller then others for not apparent reason.
I don’t know if there is way to fix that but, if possible please try.
It would be fantastic if there were instructor resources (quiz questions, etc.) available as well.
It would be useful to include in the primary sources for Chapter 6, the US Constitution, since so much of that chapter is dedicated to that document. It would also be nice to include a selection from The Federalist Papers so students can understand the framing of the debate over the Constitution. Given the polarized nature of the electorate today, perhaps Federalist 10 would serve the purpose.
It would be great if you could highlight the text and underline it, as if it were a real textbook. Having a toolbar that allows you to take notes like you do in a physical book would be utterly helpful.
Where are the page numbers? I am using the online text for class, and we are asked to site directly from the text. However, unless I am missing something, the online text does not have a convenient way to find the page numbers.
It would be wonderful to have text-to-speech function for the text and textual sources. Many of my students commute, are ESL, or have other accessibility issues. Also, they would learn pronunciations, as well.
Most of the discussions that I have had with other instructors and professors regarding the American Yawp have generated very favorable reviews of the text. One consistent critique, however, is the lack of maps to help with understanding the geographic connections, historical context, and the visualization of historical data and information across the entirety of the text. I tend to agree and geographic/historical map additions to each of the chapters would be extremely helpful.
